The ALL-ENCOMPASSING place for environmental law
The Green Gavel
Advancing your knowledge of law and the environment
Hi! My name is Aaron Piehl. I’m going into my senior year in Obra D. Tompkins Highschool, I’ve done speech and debate for nearly 4 years, I do competitive roller skating, and I’m a godly recorder player (1st chair in 2nd grade music class). This blog will essentially function as my somewhat nonsensical ramblings about the implications of law and the environment, and how public policy interacts with corporate action. I genuinely believe that a lot of environmental advocacy is high schoolers “doing it for the college app” or just an attempt to look informed. I think as human beings we deserve better than that. After all, if the planet is going to be destroyed beyond repair by 2035, I’d like to know HOW I’m going to die. Right now, some counties in the US have about ⅓ the public defenders they need. Convicts will wait in cells for years before even getting to speak to a lawyer. Recently, congress has taken steps to change that. So if all people can get representation, it’s time our planet gets it as well. Join me, and welcome to “The Green Gavel”

Why are you doing this
most people lack essential knowledge about the legal process, and understanding the law is a pre-requisite to implementing it. If you want legislation to target environmental policy, the only way to implement it is to utilize the full force of the law in a system of litigation that benefits individual over the business
